Privacy Policy

Effective: January 1, 2025

HALE is built for people on a recovery journey. Your data is private by design. We do not sell your information, ever.

1. Information We Collect

We collect information you provide directly: • Account information: email address, name (optional), password (hashed — we never see it in plaintext). • Recovery data: sobriety date, daily check-in responses (mood, energy, craving scores, gratitude notes), journal entries. • Emergency contact: a name and phone number you optionally add. Stored only on your device and our servers — never shared. • Usage data: anonymized app usage metrics to improve the product (e.g., which features are used, crash reports). No personally identifiable information is tied to this data.

2. How We Use Your Information

Your data is used solely to provide the HALE app experience: • Displaying your sobriety counter and milestone progress. • Storing and retrieving your journal entries and check-in history. • Enabling Rescue Mode features (breathing guide, emergency contact quick-dial). • Sending optional daily reminder notifications if you enable them. We do not use your recovery data for advertising, profiling, or any purpose other than operating the app for you.

3. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored on encrypted servers. Passwords are hashed using industry-standard algorithms (bcrypt). Data in transit is encrypted via TLS. We follow security best practices and conduct regular reviews of our infrastructure. We retain your data for as long as your account is active. You may request deletion at any time.

4. Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for their marketing purposes. We may share data with: • Infrastructure providers (e.g., cloud hosting) under strict data processing agreements. • Legal authorities only if required by law and only to the minimum extent required. We will never share your recovery data, journal entries, or emergency contact information with any third party.

5. Your Rights

You have the right to: • Access the data we hold about you. • Correct inaccurate data. • Request deletion of your account and all associated data. • Export your journal entries and check-in history. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at the address below.

6. Children's Privacy

HALE is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately.

7. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes through the app or by email. Your continued use of HALE after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
